Course Description

Escalators & Moving Walks – Basics

The Escalator & Moving Walks module is designed to give participants an overall understanding of how escalators and moving walks work, a general knowledge of the terminology of components and their primary function, along with a sense of what codes apply to these devices. Participants will also be taught and provided with an explanation of the required daily inspection procedures mandated by the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA).

This course is led by an industry expert, using an online virtual methodology. You will have access to the materials through an online learning management system.

Course Outline

Navigation of Escalators & Walks:

-           What is an Escalator?

-           What is a Moving Walk?

-           Where would you find them?

-           Basic overview of how it works?

Components of an Escalator & Moving Walk – We will break the course into “exterior components” and “internal components”. You will learn the different configuration types, basic operations, mechanic components, and will recieve detailed information on the terminology and function of each component.

Codes – The codes around escalators and moving walks are quite detailed and complex.  We will provide a in-depth orientation to these codes.  Examples of codes are angle of inclination, handrail minimums, safety guards, treads, lighting and clearances.

Daily Inspection Procedures – Using the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA), we will tie inspection requirements to codes and walk through an example of a daily start-up procedure.

Conclusion: We will conclude this module with a summary and field any remaining questions while ensuring attendees understand the materials of this course. We would be very happy to outline the value of taking the remaining 4 elevating device modules offered.
