AUTO 1400 - Forklift Operator Safety Training
Course Description

This comprehensive Forklift Operator Safety Training program is designed for individuals who will operate powered lift trucks (Classes 1, 3 & 5), including electric counterbalance forklifts. It meets the training requirements outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and CSA Standard B335-15.
Participants will gain both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to safely operate a forklift in a workplace environment. The course emphasizes hazard awareness, safe operation practices, and the legal responsibilities of employers and workers under the Internal Responsibility System (IRS).
Course Outline
Theory Component (6 hours)
Delivered in a classroom setting, this component includes interactive discussions and a written knowledge test. Topics covered include legislative requirements (OHSA and CSA B335-15), operational theory, hazard identification, workplace safety standards, and safe operating procedures.
Practical Component (Practicum)
Following successful completion of the theory portion, participants will complete a hands-on practicum using an electric counterbalance lift truck. Under instructor supervision, participants will perform pre-use inspections, maneuvering, and load handling, and must demonstrate safe operation in a workplace-style setting.
To successfully complete the course, participants must:
- Pass a written knowledge test
- Demonstrate competency in a practical evaluation
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a wallet card for proof of training.
Prerequisites
Participants must be at least 18 years of age to attend, in accordance with industry safety standards.
